To read more about cannabis oil and cancer, skip to the section below, titled Cannabis Oil and Cancer. In fact, many patients have reported that cannabis oil can help with everything from weight loss to insomnia. While not all cannabis is considered optimal for weight loss hello, munchies? The entire beauty industry has been focusing on cannabis oils and the benefits it might offer consumers.

Everything from body lotions to face creams and serums are hitting the market. Scientists are not merely studying the effect that cannabis oil has on our day-to-day lives. They are also researching the possible role that it might play in the fight against cancer — and not just to ease the pain of the disease and its treatments.

Many scientists believe that cannabis oil could possibly help fight and prevent certain strains of cancer, both in hemp form and with THC. Many cancer patients and survivors credit cannabis oil in the treatment of their disease — and successful remissions.

In March , the BBC reported that many patients are taking cannabis oil to ease anxiety and hopefully reduce the possibility of recurrence of cancer cells in patients in remission.

Former Playboy model Kerry Parker has been treating her two forms of brain cancer after cancerous cells returned after treatment. This all brings us to the question: Since the oil is illegal in many states and countries, many patients are simply experimenting on themselves to find out. The science regarding cannabis oil and brain tumors is also premature.

Yet for some, a cancer sentence is a terminal one. A Scottish woman , Lynn Cameron, who was diagnosed with brain cancer and told she had only 18 months to live, made a full recovery and credits cannabis oil to her full recovery.

Cannabis oil has long been used to curb the negative side effects of chemo and radiation as well as cancer symptoms, such as loss of taste. But could it actually aid in the fight against cancer itself? Many scientists are looking into the possible medical benefits of marijuana.

Even the American Cancer Society believes certain strains of marijuana could help treat some of the symptoms that cancer patients face. They even mention cannabidiol CBD as a possible treatment to help fight some of the anxiety and pain in cancer patients without worrying about the negative side effects that some people report such as paranoia and anxiety when taking THC. The article cited a study at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy in Louisville, Kentucky, where a professor believes that hemp could help fight ovarian cancer.

Many scientists believe that cannabis oil can even help prolong the lives of those with stage IV cancers. Stage IV cancer simply means that cancer has spread from its original location to other organs in the body. Treating stage IV cancer is more difficult than stages one through three.

This is why many patients opt for more experimental treatments at this stage. Someone who discovers that their cancer has metastasized to other areas of the body is more likely to find a treatment that is as aggressive as the diagnosis. The demonization of marijuana has stunted scientific studies on its links to cancer in several ways.

Many cancer patients have found cannabis oil a positive way to manage symptoms and many even believe it has cured their cancer and prevented relapses. With any food or drug that enters your body, there are always risks associated with it.

This goes double for a substance like cannabis oil that is equally lauded for its medicinal qualities and demonized for its link to marijuana. Luckily, many of the risks are simply legal risks — not medical or health risks. Yet you should still consult a doctor to find out if cannabis oil might react with your medication, supplements or a preexisting condition.

Cannabis oil is illegal when it contains a higher amount of THC than is legal in each state. It also depends on how your body absorbs the cannabis oil. Are you planning on smoking vaping it? Are you using a tincture? How about a patch? This is another downside to the criminalization of marijuana.

In fact, CBD oil is considered a non-addictive, non-toxic substance. Some studies even suggest that it might help addicts prevent relapse. Technically, anything can kill you if you take too much of it. Even water can kill you if you drink too much of it in a short amount of time. As with any medicine or drug, you should always consult your doctor before determining your dosage.

Obviously, drug testing is an important topic when it comes to ingesting cannabis — even legally. There are plenty of reasons why you would need to be drug tested, whether court ordered or job-related. To pass a drug test , you must have less than 50 mL of THC in your system. This means that if you are using a cannabis oil with THC, you may not pass the test.

Many babies will test positive for THC in certain health exams; if your baby tests positive for THC, this could mean your baby being taken away, a social services investigation — and possible jail time. Between the possible legal ramifications and unknown health risks, doctors and cannabis oil researchers advise staying away from cannabis oil during breastfeeding. Since even CBD sits in the gray area of the law, you should probably steer clear of all cannabis oil products until your baby is weaned.

While many experts worry about the long-term effects of medical marijuana, many moms have claimed that it helped far better than prescription medication. Many doctors continue to prescribe medicines such as Xanax, Ativan and Valium to help new mothers find relief but can also be harmful in the milk of breastfeeding moms.

Yet paying attention to your dosage is still important. Many cannabis oil products come with extensive instructions regarding dosage. The right or wrong dosage can mean the difference between a relaxing, anxiety-free experience and a stressful and unpleasant one. Many cannabis oil companies recommend starting with a lower dose and working your way up to your optimal level. The cannabis oil edible company To Whom It May Chocolates labels each individual edible with the correct dosage, and each edible has a different dosage level — with edibles starting at 2.

Many edible and cannabis oil manufacturers recommend their own dosing guidelines based on the amount of THC or CBD oil in their products. Like with oils containing THC, many experts recommend starting out slow and building up your dose. Yet you can consult your doctor and probably should before heading to a dispensary or a natural foods store. In fact, he or she may advise against cannabis oils altogether. Just as you would look at the ingredients on a package of food in the grocery store, you need to look at the ingredients in cannabis oil — and find a trusted and respected manufacturer.

Research different companies online. If you live in a city where cannabis oil is sold, consult the salesperson. Explain your symptoms and what you hope to get from cannabis oil.

She also recommends starting with a low dosage and working your way up. It comes in the forms of edibles gummies, brownies, lozenges and teas , oil drops, tinctures a liquid that you drop underneath your tongue for immediate absorption and e-cig and vape pens. It also comes in the form of a patch that you affix to your skin kind of like a nicotine patch.

If your cannabis oil contains THC, you may need to try several different forms before finding the right fit. Many THC users complain that ingesting the drug has adverse side effects such as paranoia and tummy troubles. Buying cannabis oil is pretty easy. You can find oils containing THC in dispensaries where marijuana is legal. While many experts claim you should experiment with your doses and cannabis oil forms, you may end up spending a small fortune to do so.

The cost of cannabis oil varies from state to state. Many cannabis oil users find that extracting their own cannabis oil is the way to go. DIY cannabis oil extraction instruction YouTube videos are even popping up on the internet as fast as makeup application ones.

Many cannabis users make cannabis oils themselves for consumption with marijuana and cooking oil. This is a different concept than the process of extraction, which pulls out the natural oils including CBD in a marijuana or hemp plant. Homemade cannabis oils are used in cooking. Cannabis dinners, pop-ups and underground supper clubs have become increasingly popular in New York City and other major cities all over the U.

We are lucky here in Colorado. Marijuana is legal both medically and recreationally. Our doctors recommended it and gave my husband the medical marijuana card but we can also supplement as need be with recreational. My husband has a Stage 4 cancer of 'unknown primary' after 10 months of testing and appointments …. Since we are doing no other treatment, we are cautiously optimistic that the marijuana is contributing to the decline in cancer activity.

Our doctors are on board. There is an interesting article you can Google from the National Institutes of Health about the effect of CBD and THC for a number of medical concerns……there isn't much research yet because of the legal status but it being used for pain, inflammation and can in some way 'bind' to cancer cells they believe and kill the cells without harming healthy cells. I am, as of tomorrow, 3 years cancer free from my breast cancer diagnosis and I too have started to use CBD only as a 'preventative'.

I have noticed no ill effects. I use a small amount vaping before bed and it does relax me somewhat and I sleep well ha ha. The CBD doesn't create the brain effects of THC but it seems to relax me and reduce some of my old lady pains that might otherwise keep me awake.

My husband has had no negative effects either……marijuana has been used for years and there don't seem to be long term effects for adults that are documented, so I figure…….. CBD oil is great for lowering anxiety, helping with seizures, etc. You would have to look up the list on google. It is not a scam at all. I think that any claims that cannibis can cure cancer is a public perception and not a scientific one.

Contrary to what most people believe, medical uses of cannabis have been widely studied. A review by the National Academy of Science looked at over 10, studies. They found evidence for some applications of cannabis, including managing chronic pain and spasms associated with multiple sclerosis.

There was also good evidence that tetrahydrocannabinol THC , the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, can reduce the nausea caused by chemotherapy. Indeed, a synthetic form of THC, called dronabinol, has been prescribed for just this use for decades. But, crucially, there is zero evidence that cannabis has any curative or even helpful impact on cancer, despite enthusiastic claims to the contrary.

There are several articles and studies early stage and in progress on the National Institutes of Health website Search, National Institutes of Health — CBD and THC that outline research into the uses and possible effectiveness of the marijuana plant compounds for the use in cancer. It's a tough read very 'medical, ha ha but there seems to be some promise there. CBD oil is not another treatment option. It has not been shown to decrease cancer cells. What it is, is a useful agent in helping with relaxing, nausea, some pain.

I believe that using the terms cures or treatments, remedy or antidote are words that should never be used when talking about THC or CBD oil.

Too many people will believe it and it gives a false hope of surviving. Also some people can have adverse side effects that don't ever seem to be talked about. Colleen has mentioned that there is a great need for more scientific research. I agree, for sure. I also think than when adding a mind altering chemical when you are already taking others needs to be done in a very cautious way.

I hope I was not misunderstood. However, the articles I referenced and the information we received from not one but three oncology groups in relation to my husband's cancer treatment were to use it if tolerable for him which it is as an adjunct to his medical care. Other uses have been confirmed as well now. The problem with CBD and THC is that with it's legal status little research has been possible and it frustrates some doctors because they see the early research and wish they had more concrete information.

I am not a 'snake oil salesman' and I hope I have presented my thoughts carefully. I think it should be noted that so many conventional cancer treatments used today can have serious side effects and limited efficacy as well and alternatives such as CBD and THC shouldn't be pushed aside without consideration. I am 3 years cancer free 5 years from my initial diagnosis of breast cancer.

I just now added it to my healthy lifestyle choices AND medical treatment, which included a bi lateral mastectomy. I am not suggesting that people look to a miracle drug for cure but instead evaluate all their options in treating their cancer because to be honest…………medical science is a practice and it's constantly evolving.

I meant no harm or disrespect but ignoring alternative options is not wise either. Cindy- I mentioned all these things because I wanted to make the point, not because of anything that you wrote. I just spurred me to write! And I am sorry that I gave the wrong impression myself.

I am so afraid of wrong terms and people believing what their minds want them too. Evaluating all options is key to getting the right treatments, but as you write, they often fail or have serious side effects and are not adequate and additional options need to be considered. You certainly did not show any disrespect, perhaps I should have asked questions instead of diving right in. Liked by Colleen Young, Connect Director , cindylb. Merry……perhaps I over reacted a bit myself and I apologize.

My husband's cancer is unusual because they cannot determine a primary source and they told us he wouldn't be here for the holidays but we just returned from a doctor visit and he is actually so much better.

We are thankful and grateful for that. We were offered radiation and it was taken off the table, we were offered surgery and it was taken off the table, we were offered chemo but since they don't know the cancer type it would be multiple chemo drugs and they felt he wouldn't be able to tolerate treatment. There are some very rare cases where cancer appears and then goes away very rare and this could be one of those cases or this may advance to something they can finally identify most likely or perhaps the one remaining option we have CBD and THC may hold it off or reverse it.

Don't know and won't know until we continue on the journey. Cindy- We are good! One of the most difficult things with cancer, or any severe health problem is the feeling of being powerless.
